“We chose Viv to take care of our wedding photography, and it was the best choice we could have made. He has a very professional yet friendly manner which ensures everyone around him is at ease.
Viv has great ideas for shots which turned out beautiful and our special day captured in full. What’s different about Viv is that he really captures the emotions of guests, the smiles and looks that we didn’t see on the day. Viv was almost invisible during the ceremony and at the venue. He made the wedding party shoot short and enjoyable, again something very important in terms of not missing the reception. Viv is skilled enough to capture the shots that you want in a short space of time. We would highly recommend Viv for wedding photography.”

“We hired Viv as our wedding photographer in Ireland after interviews with possible candidates. After seeing his wedding portfolio, he seemed to be an artist in the field as well as a most pleasant person. We’re impressed with what he accomplished. He captured and highlighted our precious moments in the most creative ways. On the wedding day, he was clearly in charge of the situation as a wedding photographer. We trusted him and he delivered! His wedding photography have given us even more than we hoped for and is with us till the end. He followed through with all agreements made and were dependable, positive and helpful throughout the planning process, always interested in our opinions and wishes. He is, indeed, highly recommended!”

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: We live abroad/are very busy and cannot meet with you in person?
A: That’s no problem. Many of my clients come from abroad for their wedding in Ireland. In these cases we communicate through Zoom or FaceTime with clients to have an online meeting.

Q: I’d like to set up a meeting and see more of your work in person, how do we go about this?
A: Drop me an email: Contact page, or drop me a line: +353 86 403 4694

Q: How long have you been working as a wedding photographer in Ireland?
A: I started to photograph weddings in 2007 for friends and colleagues. I worked as a portrait photographer at the time for one of Ireland’s largest Portrait studios.

Q: What is your photography style?
A: I use a photojournalism approach to capture the wedding day naturally as it happens. During the Couple’s session I get them to interact and chat while I capture photos from a distance. Have a look at examples of my style in the Wedding Photography Gallery. Or in the Love Stories section.

Q: How long is the photo session?
A: I try to keep that to a minimum so couples can enjoy their day with little fuss

Q: We found some photos I’d like to recreate for our wedding photos, can we do this?
A: Absolutely!! Send the samples ahead of the big day, so I can work on getting it photographed on the day.

Q: I am having a winter wedding, or it’ll be dark – is this a problem?
A: I have worked in many locations that have been dark. I can usually light the interior with flash which gives me great results. Some churches prohibit flash, however my equipment is capable of shooting in much lower light conditions.

Q: Do you cover destination weddings? Are there any additional fees?
A: Absolutely!! I have covered weddings all over Ireland and destination weddings in France, South Africa, Netherlands, Spain, Poland and the UK to name a few.

Q: When do we get to see our wedding photos?
A: Once all the editing has been done, within 2 weeks from the wedding day I have them up on your personal gallery. In the busy season it can take a week or 2 longer. You’ll receive an email with all the info on how to log in to your gallery to share it with friends and family. I have the disc ready at the same time when the gallery goes live.

Q: Do we get to see every photo you took on the day?
A: That would be tedious to yourselves. To make viewing your wedding photos a pleasurable experience, I eliminate every wedding photo that doesn’t meet my standards. Those that are out of focus, bad expressions, closed eyes and shots that are generally not flattering to the couple. I narrow down my selections to only the best wedding photos from the day. My Wedding packages explains how many photographs are included in each package.

Q: Are the photos edited?
A: Yes. Your wedding photos are fully edited and will be ready to share and print as you see fit. Have a look at the Love Stories Blog to see what the series of photos are likely to look like.

Q: How many photos will we get?
A: Every wedding I cover is different so there is no set amount. I aim to deliver 250-280 for a short wedding and 350-500 for a full day.

Q: What if you have never photographed my Wedding Venue before?
A: If I have never been to a Reception venue before, I do my research online to see what is available to me. I also aim to get to the venue early to scout locations I’d like to use for the photo sessions. All wedding venues are the same in regard to finding locations for the shots I have in mind.

Q: How long does it take to get our prints?
A: The turn around time is usually around 1 week, however in the high season (June-Sep) this can extend to 2 weeks

Q: Do you provide a photo framing service?
A: Yes, I have a photo framer that takes care of all my framing with plenty of options to customize it to your needs. The online gallery will also have a selection of frames to choose from, so you can mix and match.

Q: How long does it take to get our signature board?
A: At the end of the wedding evening, I take the signature board with me to be completed. The chosen print is mounted and sealed up by my framer. This process is usually around 2 weeks.

Q: Can I add a wedding album at a later date if we only chose the digital package?
A: Yes, absolutely. You can purchase an album later on, here is more information: View Wedding Albums.

Q: Do we get to view the album design before it gets printed and make changes?
A: Absolutely! Once I have the design completed, you will receive an email with log-in details to flip through the virtual album. There is an area for comments if you would like any changes made.

Q: How long does it take to get our album?
A: Once my client approves the design I send it to the lab for printing. It usually takes 2-4 weeks for me to receive the completed album.

Q: How can we reserve our date with you & how far in advance?
A: Once the booking deposit clears, you secure your date. The booking form link gets emailed to you to get all your details of the day. It’s better to secure your date early. The wedding industry is busy in Ireland, with bookings coming in much earlier these.

Q: How much to reserve the date with you?
A: A deposit of €200 secures the booking.

Q: When is the balance due?
A: The balance is due 1 week before or on the wedding day.

Q: Do you charge travel fees and how far do you travel?
A: Generally, No. However, if the wedding is over 2 hours drive away I ask for compensation for fuel and possibly needing to stay over the night.

Q: Will you be shooting my wedding? What if you fall ill or unable to cover our wedding?
A: Absolutely I am the only wedding photographer. If you book me, you get me. If something happens that is beyond my control and cannot cover the wedding, I have a number of trusted photographers I can call on. I try to keep our styles as close as possible. I will notify you and consult with you regarding any changes.

Q: Do you work alone, what if we need a second photographer?
A: Most of the weddings covered I work alone. If you need a second photographer, I have a number of wedding photographers in Ireland who help me out with this. Extra charges for this apply.

Q: Do you have liability insurance?
A: Yes. Public Liability and equipment insurance. Many Reception venues and photo session locations ask for this in advance of arriving at their premises. I am happy to provide this if need be.

Q: What rights do I have to the digital prints?
A: You can print and share your photos freely without restriction. You are however not allowed to sell any on to a third party without written consent from Holst Photography.

Q: Do you provide the RAW files from my engagement session and/or wedding day?
A: RAW files are unprocessed images which still need editing. RAW files aren’t included in standard photography packages. I will provide you with edited high quality JPEG Images ready to print and share without any restriction. I do however offer the option to extend your package to include RAW files at an extra cost.
